NDMC meeting disrupted over Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s house renovation | Delhi News

House Renovation
NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) meeting on Wednesday witnessed disruptions over the renovation of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. After BJP members raised the matter, the chief minister reportedly walked out, prompting BJP to allege that Kejriwal was absent in the last two meetings and “left” the proceedings midway on Wednesday.
NDMC vice-chairman and BJP leader Satish Upadhyay said at a press conference, “Today’s meeting was completely disrupted after Kejriwal was asked about the violations in the construction of the CM’s residence. As soon as our colleague, Kuljeet Chahal, raised a question about the misuse of public money for the renovation, the CM started ignoring us and abruptly left the meeting.” AAP didn’t respond to the comments.
Kejriwal is a member of NDMC by virtue of being the New Delhi MLA. Under the NDMC Act, the MLA from this constituency automatically becomes a council member.
BJP has been attacking Kejriwal and AAP, claiming that Rs 45 crore had been spent to renovate the chief minister’s residence. AAP has alleged that BJP was trying to divert attention from real issues by raising this matter.
Chahal said at the press conference that NDMC members, including Vishaka Sailani, asked Kejriwal several questions, but he did not reply. “I raised the issue of ‘huge corruption’ in the construction of the CM house without considering the rules, regulations/norms of DUAC, MCD, NGT and other government agencies,” he said.
On the CM getting contractual staff regularised, Chahal claimed, “The information obtained through RTI revealed that Kejriwal never raised any issue of NDMC employees regarding grant of DTL scales and other personal issues before the council or any other authority.”
