Elle King traded her microphone for a sledgehammer and returned to her Ohio roots to help transform her beloved grandfather’s house in the season finale of “Secret Celebrity Renovation.”
King’s episodes airs 8-9 PM, ET/PT Friday on CBS. “Secret Celebrity Renovation” will stream on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*.
The pop-turned-country singer grew up in southern Ohio, eating ketchup, ballooney, and cheese sandwiches. Her grandfather was a railroad conductor in a coal mining town, and her brother had worked at all the factories within a 40-mile radius.
“You either work in factories, you join the military, or you get pregnant at 16, which everybody in my family did, by the way,” King said. “I love it. And I also want to celebrate it. I had to find my path and find myself first to celebrate where my family is from.”
King’s debut country album “Come Get Your Wife” is out now. While the collection is the boisterous singer’s first foray into the country genre, she is already a seasoned music industry veteran. King’s 2014 debut pop single “Ex’s & Oh’s” is four times platinum, and her debut album “Love Stuff” is platinum. However, with the release of her first country album – which contains her hit collaboration with Dierks Bentley collaboration “Worth A Shot,” her platinum single “Drunk (And I Don’t Want To Go Home),” with Miranda Lambert and “Lucky ,” a song inspired by her infant son – King has found her forever home in country music.
Now, she wanted to do some work on her precious papaw’s home. King’s grandfather has lived in the Wellston, Ohio, home for almost five decades. Viewers will see King wield a hammer to bust up the quaint kitchen cabinets to make room for the sleek new ones.
In addition to the construction work, King took the television team to Rowdy’s Smokehouse, where he performed a concert for much of the midwestern town.
Show host Nischelle Turner (ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT) anchors King’s episode of “Secret Celebrity Renovation.” The design team includes home improvement contractor and television personality Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano (SURVIVOR) and interior designer Sabrina Soto (“Design Star,” “Trading Spaces”).
